BREAKING NEWS: Seminole City Council Addresses Commercial Sewer Billing Error

At the [1:47:50] mark of the September 10th, 2024, Seminole City Council meeting, city officials discussed a significant billing error affecting 50 commercial accounts between June 2023 and August 2024. The issue, identified by city staff, stemmed from either a software malfunction or a potential manual error in the billing system. Although the error has been corrected, it resulted in underbilling commercial customers for a total of approximately $87,000.
City staff traditionally absorb these types of errors for residential accounts, but this case, involving commercial businesses, led to a more in-depth discussion by council members. Options discussed included notifying the affected businesses and offering flexible payment plans. At [1:50:40], the council decided to draft letters to the businesses, encouraging voluntary repayment while offering negotiated terms.
